Kia ora koutou,
This month we have a spotlight on Open Source, our team are passionate about open – Open Data, Open Standards and Open Source.  I first worked on an Open Source Linux kernel back in 1989 (showing my age) so have enjoyed watching this space mature and evolve from niche to mainstream.
Safe travels.
Ngā mihi,
Victoria.

What we’ve written

Spotlight on… Open Source

The Open Source data space is maturing rapidly providing customers with great alternatives to the age old challenge of vendor lock-in.  As a team we embrace Open Source by contributing to projects, advising customers on options and have released our own IP under Open Source licenses.  You can read more of our Open Source blogs here.

What is MongoDB and what does it do?

TL;DR it’s a NoSQL database and a whole lot more.  We use it, so started up a MongoDB Meetup for those who want to learn more, join the group to keep an eye when the next Meetup is.

Apache Superset – so darn awesome

Supporting visualisation, data exploration and collaborations, Superset was built from the ground and open sourced by the folks at Airbnb.  Read Thomas’ blog for a walk through of the install and a whole lot more.

Getting started with OrientDB

In this blog, our Senior Developer Kate Loguteva talks through the steps and considerations she took to get started with OrientDB for the full NoSQL experience.

What we’re up to

Meet Alison

This is Alison, she makes sense out of data, builds reports and dashboards, designs data warehouses and collects business requirements.
She loves numbers, playing with data and turning something seemingly incomprehensible into usable information.
Ali loves to bake and will produce something amazing for the office bake-off, which she’ll carefully balance on her bike during the morning commute.
Connect with Alison Rowe on LinkedIn.

Congrats to our athletes!

Huge congratulations to our staff athletes who recently participated in some pretty special events:  Barry Stevens (Karapiro 100k flyer), Nic Cox (Ring of Fire, photo), Shane Miles (Northburn 50) and Rachel MacLennan (Xterra).
