RapidMiner training videos: Where to start

by | Jun 13, 2017

Here at OptimalBI we are RapidMiner partners. In fact, we are rather proud we are on the RapidMiner partners page. Recently I’ve been looking at the RapidMiner training videos and they are really worth checking out.

Who are these videos for?

These assume a professional level of statistical and analytical knowledge but not prior familiarity with RapidMiner. They videos are for people who want to get started with using RapidMiner Studio for statistical analysis. If are a data scientist like Mel, who writes blogs like Preparing Excel Data for Analytics, and you have downloaded RapidMiner Studio these would be a good place to start.

What is covered?

These videos are very comprehensive. The first one “What’s new in RapidMiner Studio” is really an introduction the RapidMiner user interface. As you can see by the list below these videos cover everything from the importing data to the validating a model. I’ve been through the videos and they are also sequential, from What’s new in RapidMiner Studio they are guiding you step by step through the process of setting up and using your model.

What’s good about them?

These videos do what they say they will; they introduce you to RapidMiner and walk you through the basics steps of using it. They are well paced and clearly pitched at people who have statistical expertise but no prior knowledge of RapidMiner. The audio is clear and explanations are easy to follow.

Does RapidMiner produce any other videos?

Oh, yes, they most certainly do. The 5 Minutes With Ingo series on YouTube which is all about what predictive analytics is, and they are great for a laugh. But they are not a practical guide to actually using RapidMiner. There are a set of introduction videos that start with RapidMiner Platform Demo: Part 1 – Getting Started with RapidMiner 7.3 but I found the audio wasn’t good and the pacing was too fast to follow. You can also view all of RapidMiners webinars such as WEBINAR: Introducing RapidMiner 7.5 but be warned, as recorded webinars the audio can be a little rough.
So, if you are new to RapidMiner and looking for a place to start the RapidMiner training videos are it.
