Working with Attunity Replicate on a day-to-day basis and seeing it doing its intended job accurately and gracefully, I thoroughly enjoyed reading a recent book, Streaming Data Capture: A Foundation for Modern Dara Architectures, written by Attunity’s managers Kevin Petrie, Dan Potter and Itamar Ankorion.
It’s rather short and gives a good overview of the change data capture technology underlying the Replicate product and how it fits into a modern data architectures.
Change data capture (CDC) is an approach to data integration that is based on the identification, capture and delivery of the changes made to enterprise data sources. Wiki.
Going through the chapters the reader will get answers to the following questions:
- What are the advantages of CDC technology that make it indispensable?
- What is some of the basic CDC terminology?
- What are the approaches to implementing CDC?
- What is the role of CDC in modern architectures such as data lakes, streaming or clouds?
In addition to the above, the authors list several Attunity Replicate software implementations in companies with various data strategies and environments around the globe. As well as how it influenced the business operation, and an overview of the five distinct levels of replication maturity of organizations.
This is a very well structured, consistent, sufficiently detailed book is worth spending your time on. It is at the right level for it’s the broad intended audience to structure their knowledge of data integration and be inspired by the CDC technology.
Definitely, a recommended read we will be sharing with our Attunity customers.
