1. Data Virtualisation
Looks to me that data virtualisation is starting to get legs as a possible technical solution in data warehousing. We are doing a bit of experimentation on virtualising dimensional stars off the Data Vault structures to reduce the latency and effort required to deliver data to users.
Short article here:
The Logical Data Warehouse Architecture is NOT the same as Data Virtualization
The gold is this statement:
“To summarise: Data virtualization technology relates to a logical data warehouse architecture the way a SQL database server relates to a data warehouse or data mart”

3. Data Warehouse Automation
We are working on the next major feature of http://ODE.ninja focussing on automating derived columns and Same as Links.
I’m completely sold on the idea of DW Automation. Not so much automating the endless data flows created by developers like most DW Automation products, but by using configuration to automate the 80% of the code that conforms to standard patterns. In my head, DW Automation should be as easy as WordPress.
The table in this article does a great job of articulating the benefits of DW Automation for both development and operations.

When the team have time I am nagging them to add new cool features to ODE, our open source data vault automation engine at ode.ninja.
