Delivery Framework Overview

The members of the OptimalBI team have been involved in many Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence projects that have utilised various philosophies and methodologies.

We are constantly reviewing our implementations and delivery mechanisms to determine what makes an Optimal practice, which we then include into our methodologies and practices.

Data Warehousing Methodology
In terms of philosophically alignment OptimalBI shares more with Inmon school of Data Warehousing than the Kimball – i.e. we believe that the effort required to build an enterprise data warehouse from which data marts source their information is time and money well spent.

That said we recognise that one-size does not fit all.  Each organisation must weigh up the costs and benefits that apply to them and pick an appropriate Business Intelligence strategy.

OptimalBI does not believe in forcing our methodology on our customers.  We believe that iterative development approaches provide the best outcomes in Business Intelligence projects, but are experienced in both traditional waterfall methodologies and agile/iterative development practices.

We will fit within the preferred methodology of our customers.

Optimal Practices

In order to maximise the probability of a successful outcome we have a number of optimal practices that we recommend all our projects attempt to adhere to.  These include covering practices within the  following subject areas:

  • Development and Infrastructure
  • Data Warehousing
  • Business Intelligence Enablement
